The United Kingdom
c. 950 BC · one of the six stops on the atlas era rail
Slide the atlas to the United Kingdom era and the map redraws itself as the world stood about 950 BC: cities rise to their height, fall to ruin, or have not yet been built. Every change below comes from the era notes written for this stop.

The map at this stop
- Jerusalem · at its height. David’s city; Solomon’s Temple stands on Moriah.
- Jericho · in ruins. Its stones still lay under Joshua’s curse.
- Shiloh · in ruins. Burned about 1050 BC after the ark was taken in battle; who set the fire, Scripture does not say.
- Samaria · absent from the map.
- Hazor · rebuilt. Solomon walled Hazor with Megiddo and Gezer; whether its gate is his or a later king’s is debated.
- Damascus · standing. David garrisoned Damascus; in Solomon’s day Rezon made it the seat of a new Aramean kingdom.
- Megiddo · standing. Solomon fortified it to guard the great road; whether its famous gate is his or a later king’s is debated.
- Tyre · at its height. Hiram of Tyre sent cedars and craftsmen to David and Solomon for the house of the LORD.
