The story

Pithom was one of the two store cities, with Raamses, that the Israelites were forced to build for Pharaoh in the eastern delta. It was a walled town of granaries and supply, raised with the mortar and brick of Israel’s bondage.

Scripture names Pithom only once, yet it carries the whole weight of the oppression, the bricks and the bitter service. Out of that groaning the people cried, and God heard, and remembered His covenant, and moved to bring them out.
